“Platform 1094-Singapore’s first Harry Potter themed Bistro”- A Must Visit for all Potterheads.

Wow! This weekend we visited Harry Potter Themed Bistro at Singapore “Platform 1094”. I am really excited about writing this blog. I have been a Potterhead ever since my school friend introduced me to the Wizarding world of Harry Potter and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Before we begin let’s see which house we all get sorted into,

Song of the Sorting Hat:
“Oh you may not think I’m pretty,
But don’t judge on what you see,

A smarter hat than me.

Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I’m the Hogwarts Sorting Hat

Put on the hat and it’ll tell you where you truly belong.

Once you know where you belong it’s time to read ahead.
“I solemnly swear that I am upto no good” . 
If you are looking for some mischief you are at the right place, well to begin with, “Platform 1094” is Singapore’s first Harry Potter themed Bistro . It is located at 1094 Serangoon Road ( Nearest MRT is Boon Keng Station). The entrance to the cafe is quite small but once you enter the cafe there is an entire wizarding world inside( It does ring a bell to the hidden Platform 9¾ ). Hence I felt the name of the cafe “ Platform 1094” aptly fits it.

Make sure to book a reservation in advance since the seats gets filled in quite quickly in here .

As I walked in I was amazed at the whole ambience of the Bistro.

The rustic stone walls , the wooden floors and the ceilings ,the old and hefty table and chairs reminiscing a ‘Defence Against the Dark Arts’ or ‘Professor Snape’s Portion’s Classroom.

Everything here seems Magical. We had booked a table for four at 7pm here at Platform 1094. The chairs had Harry’s Patronus Charm on it “Stag”. The dining table is arranged well with Books , wands and Harry’s round spectacles.

There is Costume stand kept at one corner of the cafe with the complete set of Hogwarts Uniform, wands, pet cages , owls etc that you can wear. You can pretend that you have nothing to do with the muggle world and enjoy being a Wizard /Witch waving your wands and chanting magical spells and no one judges you in here. You could have your own photoshoot of being part of the wizarding world as well .All you need is the Summoning Charm “ Accio” and with that you summon your Costume along with the other accessories for you to begin your day as a Wizard/ Witch.

Once we settled in to order food we were given ancient looking menu cards that looked like an old book with parchments in it that was sealed shut and wouldn’t open no matter how hard we tried.

Probably taken from the Restricted Section of the Hogwarts Library . Hence we figured that it wouldn’t open unless we used the Unlocking Charm (Alohomora)on it.

Though we successfully opened the Menu Card we still couldn’t read a thing. That’s when we realised the inscriptions in the menu card might have been concealed with magic. We then used the Revealing Charm (Aparecium) and look what we found.

There are options for deserts with secret recipes and Breakfast options are available as well.

I was awed by the various magical fictional names used for the various dishes with an explanation of the ingredients below for muggles to understand. The main course consists of magically delicious food which is served along with the Potions or Poisons of your choice.

Magically delicious food that we ordered were as follows:

1) SAUS-VIDE CHICKEN BREAST WITH PESTO PASTA(16$):
Delicious spaghetti with pan seared saus-vide chicken breast tossed in pesto sauce with arugula.

2) PLATFORM CLASSIC CHICKEN BOMB BURGER(18$):
Homemade chicken Patty with cheddar cheese along with sliced gherkins, tomatoes, romaine lettuce and grilled bacon and sunny side up. Served with tasty fries and garden green salad in balsamic dressing and homemade green tea burger bun.

3) CRAB MEAT AGLIO-OLIO(17$):
Spaghetti with well minced crab meet served with smoked salmon and flying fish roe tossed in beurre monte( melted butter)sauce.

4)MEATBALLS SERVED IN WITCH’S CAULDRON(10$): Baked beef meat balls with cheese along with spicy tomato sauce served in Cauldrons to create a magical effect.

Potions ( Smoothies) and Poisons(Cocktails) that we tried:
1)Mrs Lich’s Butterscotch Ale(10$): Prepared using Platform’s Secret recipe. It is the names of the special ingredients that tempted me to try out this potion. Yumm! This tasted really good ! Definitely give it a try.

Now coming to the best part, it’s Professor Snape’s Class- “ Potion’s Class:
2) Mrs Lich’s Flaming Brew or the “ Goblet of Fire”(15$) as it is famously called.
One of the staff at the Bistro brought the ingredients needed to make the concoction to our table and we are expected to create the mysterious Mrs Lich’s Flaming brew which is also called the Goblet of Fire, in order to please Professor Snape and so we did create the magical potion following the recipe given below,

Goblet of Fire Recipe:
To a glass of Blue Curacao Liquor add a table spoon of Bacardi. Ignite it using a Blowtorch. Now add the cinnamon powders to the brew and watch the bright red-orange flames shimmer and rise up .The mysterious Lich’s Flaming brew is now ready.This truly gives you a magical moment. This is a must try at Platform 1094.

As Dumbledore says to Harry in The Deathly Hallows:
“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean it is not real?”.
Visiting The Cafe “ Platform 1094” is indeed a dream come true to all the potterheads out there. I can Play as a Witch all day forgetting all about the Muggle World. If you love the Wizarding World of Harry Potter then this cafe is a MUST VISIT .
