Alappuzha ( or Alleppey) is a city in the southern state of India –“Kerala”. This place is known for it’s houseboats. The beauty of tranquil backwaters and its calm and serene surrounding is priceless. Exquisite well furnished houseboats are available to enjoy the rustic and scenic beauty of the place. Different types of houseboats are rented based on our choices of number of bedrooms required and duration of our stay .A maximum of 11 bedroom boats to a minimum of 2 bedroom boats are available. We decided to stay for a day and chose a houseboat with four bedrooms.
Each boat is assigned with a captain, a boat maintenance personnel and a cook to come with us. The manager readout the planed itinerary for the stay and listed the safety rules to be followed during the stay.
Our stay was planned as follows: since we boarded the houseboat by noon 12:30 pm we could stay till next day 9:00 am. We were welcomed by the crew members with a welcome drink and with that our journey commenced.
The stay in a houseboat is such an amazing experience, if you are planning a visit to Kerala this definitely needs to be on top of your ‘Must visit’ list. This is something that you must experience in person. On the interior the house boat looks just like a well furnished house but when we look outside and see the backwaters , that’s when we realize the difference.
The best part is the view from the deck. Nature is so photogenic that one can never really get bored clicking it’s pictures. As we sailed across the backwaters we took turns to drive the boat as well.However, the caption takes control of the boat after a while. We then decided to play games and dance to the music being played. The whole trip was fun.
Everything has beauty but not everyone can see it. To some these might just be usual things done at home, while others enjoy the enchantment of serene environment.For those who seek to have a few days off ,from the daily routine hustle and bustle -this whole ‘staying in a houseboat’ idea is definitely a cool option to choose. It is the experience that you get during the stay in a houseboat that amazes you.
Now the most delicious part is the food served during the stay . Yummy ,what a scrumptious meal we had! Traditional Kerala cuisines both veg and non veg were served for both lunch and dinner and for tea time we were served tea and snacks.Our night stay was fun as well.

In my opinion the overall experience of cruising the backwaters of Alleppey in a houseboat, the traditional Kerala food and stay definitely added beauty to our vacation.
This place is ideal for a happy vacation , be it a couple /a huge family /family and friends get-together etc. There are many such lovely destinations for experiencing the authentic and aesthetic beauty of Kerala also known as God’s own country and cruising Kerala’s backwaters in houseboats gives you a mesmerizing glimpse of it’s beauty.
