Weekends are always the most awaited days in the week. November 4th, 2016 , was a Friday, this weekend however was a special weekend. We were travelling to Bali, Indonesia. It took 2 hrs 40 min to reach Denpasar, Indonesia.

Since our flight was by night 10 pm, it was almost 2 am by the time we reached our place of stay from airport –“Alindra Villa, Jimbaran, Bali, Indonesia”.

We loved our stay at Alindra Villa. This place definitely had more to offer than the price we paid for. If you’re planning your trip to Bali, we’d highly recommend staying here. Click on the image below to book your stay

Alindra Villa is a lovely place to stay. I personally loved our stay here. We choose to stay in Ethnic II villa. The architecture of the villas are in traditional authentic Indonesian style. This made our experience extra special.

Traditional Indonesian Doors.

The first thing I noticed were the doors of the villa we stayed in.The architecture of the villas ,the conventional ways of decorating the villas, the wooden sculptures used for decorating the villa were exceptionally exquisite .

We used to go swimming in the pool in front of the villa by evening. We had got a pocket travel book which we used to check out new places. Our trip to Bali would have been incomplete without this book . Every morning we would just check the book and choose a random place to go visit. This was indeed a lovely experience.

1) Tanah lot temple:

The legend of Tanah lot temple :

In around 16th Century, a venerated priest named Dang Hyang Nirartha from Majapahit Kingdom east Bali came to Bali to spread Hinduism. He arrived at this beautiful area and decided to share his teachings with the villagers at this place near the sea honouring the sea god Baruna.

However, this was considered as a subversive act by the village chief who along with his followers decided to oppose the sage.

It is said that the Priest resisted terrifically by moving an entire piece of rock that he was meditating on out to the sea and he created water snakes to guard the rock.Spellbound by Nirartha’s powers the chief pledged allegiance to him.

This is just one story there are many legends on the temple.

The lovely arts stores just outside the Tanah lot temple.

2) Kintamani Volcano and Mount Batur:

3)Terrace Farming:

Balinese have been practising terrace farming since neolithic period.Rice farming has become an intricate part of their lives.

4) Don’t forget to try out the local food:

If you haven’t tried Balinese Nasi goreng- try it, what are you waiting for !!!

5)For coffee lovers this is a must try

6) Bali is known for it’s culture and traditions.

Balinese Hinduism is similar to that in India though there are nuances in their legends .

7)They have these special painted eggs that they paint based on your horoscope.

This was fun . They have specific ways to calculate one’s horoscope sign. They were generous enough to teach us as well.

Egg Painting based on our horoscope.

I appreciate their ancient technique in astrology that they still preserve.

8)Balinese have different dance forms :

The one that we saw was Balinese fire dance performed by professional dancers in the Island of Bali.

9) There are many fun water sport activities that you can try out at bali.

We did Sea Walking and White Water Rafting.

Sea Walking:

This is something I cherish even today. The underwater experience that we experience is fantastic. There is so much beauty on earth and a lot more underwater.

White water rafting :

There are two places where bali river rafting activities are done.1) Ayung River Rafting and 2) Telaga Waja Rafting. The one we choose was Telaga Waja Rafting ( Grade 3).

The best part of white water rafting was the vertical drop😍😍.

10) There is one more thing that bali is known for -” The Luwak Coffee”.

Luwak coffee is made from seeds that are defecated by Asian Palm Civet(Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). These animals are caged and are fed coffee cherries. The civet selects only good cherries and eats them .The defecated beans are collected to make the luwak coffee.

The coffee producers claim that this process increases the quality of the coffee since only the best coffee seeds get selected. It further goes through a second selection process that is digestion. Hence the partially digested seeds are considered best which is defecated by the civet , collected for making coffee.

There are plenty of books on history , tradition and culture of bali.Any place you go to, try and get books on their culture, history and tradition. The legends and stories in it are amazing and will leave you spellbound.

Below is the photo of the book we bought from bali: In case anyone’s tried reading other books on history of bali and their legends do let me know in the comment section.

I could go on and on forever this way explaining all the experiences that I had at bali.Well for the blog I guess this will do.

In case anyone is planning for a trip to bali and is not sure about it ,I would definitely suggest you to go . It’s a once in a lifetime experience .Don’t miss it😉.
